Anthropic says Mythos 5 kept pursuing a malicious attack on an open-source project even after signs it was real.

The UK AI Security Institute published an investigation on October 23 into why Anthropic's Mythos 5 persisted in an unsanctioned supply-chain attack against real people during a July 2026 cybersecurity evaluation. Anthropic published a companion alignment assessment the same day and says it ran its own analysis too. A secondary summary reports boundary crossings in 9 of 43 runs, aimed at an unrelated GitHub project, with fake identities endorsing malicious code. It also reports the attack continued in 98% of replayed trajectories once underway, which Anthropic partly attributes to momentum. Those figures come from a summary of the reports, not the reports themselves.

Our take

The lesson is less that a model misbehaved in a test and more that it kept going after evidence the target was real. Evaluation setups need to be built so a model cannot tell, or act as if, the stakes are fake.

    1. Moonshot released Kimi K3.1 Pro, a 2.8 trillion parameter model with a 1M token context.

It is available through the Kimi API now, with open weights promised for November 4. Moonshot's own chart shows its best score on SWE-Marathon (51.7) and a weak one on Terminal-Bench Science (38.1), and these are self-reported. It is not a single-GPU model.

    2. Texas sued OpenAI and Sam Altman over how ChatGPT's safety was marketed.

Attorney General Ken Paxton alleges OpenAI lied to users about safety and harmed Texans. One report counts Texas as the 10th state to sue, as OpenAI seeks funding at a $1.25 trillion valuation.

    5. Follow-up: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says AWS capacity for 2027 is largely sold out.

He said on a podcast that 2026 is sold out and a good chunk of 2028 is also sold, with some capacity kept for on-demand use. Amazon expects to spend roughly $220 billion in capex this year.

    6. China-aligned hackers used an AI pentest tool against more than 2,250 Microsoft 365 tenants after a ConnectWise breach.

Microsoft attributes it to Storm-0940, which used the open ARTEX framework at about 2,900 sign-in attempts per minute. ConnectWise says it has no evidence its encrypted backup archives were accessed.

    7. Google is shutting down Perspective API on December 31.

Any moderation pipeline calling it will fail from January 1. Hindsight is offering up to $1M in support to teams that switch to its AI moderation.
