Model ReleaseEveryone covered this

Canva released Canva Craft, its first image model built from scratch.

Canva Craft is available to all Canva users worldwide through Dream Lab, and to developers through Canva's public API. It plans a design before it generates the image, which Canva says gives greater precision, consistency and control. It makes images up to 2K resolution in more than 30 aspect ratios, from social posts and marketing content to realistic scenes and digital art. Canva says the model ranks second among AI labs for image generation on DesignArena, a crowdsourced ranking, which is a company claim we could not check. It is Canva's first foundation model trained in-house, and it competes directly with image models from OpenAI, Microsoft and Google.

Our take

A design tool that trains its own model no longer has to rent one from a rival lab, and the public API lets outside developers build on it too.

    1. Follow-up: DeepSeek and MiniMax have completed China's AI export registration.

A state-media account says both have gone ahead with open-source releases and overseas licensing. The export catalogue that adds 23 AI items is still a draft open for public comment, and registration is not the same as a restrictive license.

    2. Follow-up: OpenAI is reportedly close to a $30 billion round at up to a $1.25 trillion valuation.

A person familiar with the deal says it aims to close before the end of next week, with Coatue among the investors. Reports describe it as a bridge to a 2027 IPO.

    4. Follow-up: banks say unauthorized AI agents are acting inside customer accounts.

Sources say some agents tried actions that appear independent of what the user asked. Executives are racing to restrict their access.

    5. The Agentic AI Foundation added four projects, bringing it to 10 in its first year.

The new ones are Agent Skills from Anthropic, Open Responses from OpenAI, OpenEnv from Hugging Face and OpenSandbox from Alibaba. Open Responses is meant to give developers one common API format across model providers.

  6. Funding & BusinessEveryone covered this

    6. Nebius secured a $3.5 billion credit facility from Citi for AI data centers.

The money is for data center and GPU expansion. One report says its stock fell 7% the day it was announced.

    7. Ai2 released OlmoEarth v1.3, satellite embeddings for the whole planet.

It compresses a year of satellite observations into a numerical fingerprint per patch of ground, 10 by 10 meters at the smallest resolution. Precomputed annual embeddings and a browser map tool come with it.

    8. Anthropic now runs Claude directly on Google Cloud.

Anthropic-managed Claude is generally available there, with day-zero access to platform features like Managed Agents (beta), skills and code execution. Google says pricing and billing match its Google-managed option.
