Credentials. API calls and script execution use your local AWS credentials, so point them at a limited profile.
Who it is forA Kiro user who wants real-time AWS documentation search and API access inside the agent.
The problemWithout a documentation source and API access the agent works from memory.
The outcomeKiro with the AWS MCP Server for runtime API access and documentation search, plus locally installed skills.
What you need first
- A supported coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Devin, Kiro or fx
- uv installed for the Kiro, fx and other-agent setups
- An AWS account with credentials configured locally for API calls and script execution (not needed for documentation search or skill discovery)
Steps
- Install uv, which the setup needs
- Add the aws server to your Kiro MCP configuration in
.kiro/settings/mcp.jsonwith commanduvxand argsmcp-proxy-for-aws-cli@latest,https://aws-mcp.us-east-1.api.aws/mcp,--metadataandAWS_REGION=us-west-2 - Run
npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws/skillsto install the skills to~/.kiro/skills/or.kiro/skills/ - Ask Kiro an AWS question and confirm it searches documentation or activates a skill
Prompt for your agent
Set up the AWS MCP Server for me following the Kiro section of aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws: add the aws entry to .kiro/settings/mcp.json using my preferred region <region>, then run `npx skills add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws/skills` and tell me which skills landed in which folder.
Caveat. The README says skills and the MCP server work independently: skills do not need the server, and the server does not serve locally installed skills.
Use this in your AI agent
Ask your agent
Using the Deduped MCP, get the setup steps for aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws and "Add the AWS MCP Server and skills to Kiro"
Add Deduped to Claude Code once
