How to turn chosen WeChat chats into cited personal notes with Greenbubbles

Have a coding agent write a private wiki from your chats, with each fact tied to its source message.

Credentials. Key setup copies a key out of your WeChat app with administrator access and re-signs your WeChat copy, and the agent must never receive your database key or recovery phrase.

Who it is forA person with months of WeChat conversations who wants a searchable record of their own life and uses a coding agent already.

The problemUseful facts and plans are scattered across many chats, and copying them by hand into notes takes too long.

The outcomeA set of short Markdown articles, one per part of your life, where each fact cites the original message. Later runs add only new messages, and Git records each change.

What you need first

  • A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 14 or later
  • WeChat installed and running on that Mac
  • Administrator access for the one-time key setup
  • Homebrew, or the DMG or ZIP from the Releases page
  • A coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI, if you want agent-written notes

Steps

  1. Run brew tap bojieli/greenbubbles https://github.com/bojieli/greenbubbles.git
  2. Run brew install bojieli/greenbubbles/greenbubbles
  3. Follow the key setup steps in docs/PASSPHRASE_ACQUISITION.md so GreenBubbles can read your WeChat data
  4. Run echo "$(brew --prefix greenbubbles)/libexec/skills/greenbubbles-personal-memory/SKILL.md" to get the skill path
  5. Ask your agent: Read the GreenBubbles personal-memory SKILL.md at that path. Organize my conversations in the recent month into Markdown notes.

Prompt for your agent

Use the GreenBubbles personal-memory skill in the repo bojieli/greenbubbles at <skill path>. Read chats from the last month through the greenbubbles CLI and write Markdown notes, one article per life topic, with each fact citing its source message. Verify that every note fact has a citation and that no passwords or keys appear in the output.

Caveat. If your coding agent uses a cloud model, the messages it reads are sent to that provider, and the agent has the same file access you have.
