How to convert any video into a 1080 x 1920 Reel or TikTok with Motion Graphics Skills

Reformat an existing video into a clean vertical 1080 x 1920 file for Reels or TikTok.

  • Content
  • Intermediate
  • 45 minutes
  • From the README
  • Claude Code

Who it is forA content creator who already has a horizontal video and needs a vertical version for Instagram or TikTok.

The problemVertical reformatting by hand is slow, and the text or layout often breaks in the new frame size.

The outcomeA 1080 x 1920 MP4 ready for Instagram Reels or TikTok.

What you need first

  • Claude Code, with Opus 5.5 selected via /model
  • Install the skills with npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills
  • Run brand-intake first so brand.md and MOTION.md exist
  • For MP4 export: HyperFrames (npx skills add heygen-com/hyperframes) or ffmpeg plus Chrome
  • For reel-export and loop-cover measuring: ffmpeg, ffprobe and Python 3 as listed in the README

Steps

  1. Install ffmpeg and ffprobe, which the README lists as needed for reel-export
  2. Run npx skills add charlie947/motion-graphics-skills
  3. Open Claude Code on Opus 5.5 with /model and run brand-intake first
  4. Say: "Make this a reel for Instagram." and point it at your video file
  5. Check the output size and text placement before posting

Prompt for your agent

In Claude Code with the charlie947/motion-graphics-skills skills, run reel-export on <video file>. Expected output: a 1080 x 1920 MP4. Verify the output dimensions with ffprobe.

Caveat. The README says reel-export needs ffmpeg and ffprobe, so the setup is not copy and paste only.
