Credentials. Checkout uses an opaque payment token or a cart link, and NorthCinder rejects raw card details, but the buyer must still protect the store credentials and payment access they hold.

Who it is forA buyer who has picked a specific offer and wants an AI app to complete the purchase only within limits they set.

The problemLetting an agent buy freely risks buying the wrong variant, paying more than expected, or repeating a purchase.

The outcomeA signed approval for one exact offer and one unit, with the merchant, variant, price, known total, and spending cap, used once, plus a local record of the checkout attempt.

What you need first

  • Node.js 20 or later
  • An MCP-capable AI app
  • Store connections you choose to configure, if you want searches beyond the built-in setup

Steps

  1. Run npx northcinder init and connect NorthCinder to your AI app.
  2. Confirm the exact offer you want, including merchant, variant, price, and known total.
  3. Approve that single offer and unit with a spending cap, since each checkout needs a fresh approval.
  4. If the store supports automated checkout, let the app use the opaque payment token. Otherwise, use the cart link NorthCinder gives you and finish in your own browser.
  5. Check the local audit log entry for the checkout attempt and the order outcome.

Prompt for your agent

Using the NorthCinder MCP server, prepare checkout for the offer <offer id> with a spending cap of <amount>, one unit only. Return the approval details, the checkout result or cart link, and the audit log entry. Verify that the merchant, variant, price, and total match the approval before any payment step runs.

Caveat. A supported automated checkout is only available for stores with a native connection that confirms the exact offer, so other stores require the buyer to finish the purchase in their own browser.
