Who it is forA developer about to open or merge a pull request who wants a second read on the changes first.
The problemLarge diffs are easy to skim, and small bugs slip through when no one has reread the changes.
The outcomeCline returns a review of the diff that lists possible issues for the author to check.
What you need first
- Node.js with npm available, since the README installs the CLI with npm
- Access to an AI model provider that Cline supports, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or a local model through Ollama or LM Studio
- A git repository or project folder you want the agent to work in
- For the VS Code path: the VS Code editor and the VS Code Marketplace extension
Steps
- Install the CLI with
npm i -g cline. - Fetch the latest main branch with
git fetch origin. (inferred, check the README) - Check out your feature branch in the repository.
- Run
git diff origin/main | cline "Review these changes for issues". - Read the review and fix or dismiss each item before opening the pull request.
Prompt for your agent
Use the cline/cline CLI in <repo-path> to review the diff between origin/main and <branch-name>. Run `git diff origin/main | cline "Review these changes for issues"` and return the list of issues Cline reports. Verify each reported issue by opening the cited line before treating it as real.
Caveat. The review is generated by the model you choose, so treat its findings as suggestions to check, not as a guaranteed audit.
