Who it is forA developer or DevOps engineer who wants to verify the core builds and passes tests on their own machine before running it.
The problemInstalling a service you have not built yourself leaves no proof that the code compiles and passes its tests on your setup.
The outcomeA release build of the core and a passing test run, both produced from the repo on your machine.
What you need first
- A Linux machine, such as a VPS, home server, or spare laptop, running Ubuntu 24.04 for the one-script install
- Your own logins for the agent CLIs you want to run, since agents use your own logins to call their models
- Git, and Rust 1.89 or newer if you build from source
- Optional: a Tailscale account to reach the core from other devices
Steps
- Install Git and Rust 1.89 or newer. (inferred) Use rustup to install the Rust toolchain.
- Clone the Cloudroom Core repository from GitHub and change into its folder.
- Run
cargo build --locked --release. - Run
cargo test --locked --all-targets. - Read [diagnostics](docs/observability.md) to see how to inspect the running service if you deploy it.
Prompt for your agent
In the cloudroom-core repo at <clone-path>, run `cargo build --locked --release` and then `cargo test --locked --all-targets`. Expected output: a release binary and a summary of passing tests. Verify that the test run reports zero failures before reporting success.
Caveat. The README says this is pre-release software, so a passing build does not mean the core is production ready.
