How to apply the Solid Glass look to a shadcn/ui project with Solid Glass

Install one stylesheet so existing shadcn/ui components take on the Solid Glass material.

Who it is forA frontend developer with a shadcn/ui app who wants a refined, layered look without rewriting components.

The problemRestyling every shadcn/ui component by hand is slow, and a theme change can break existing markup.

The outcomeThe project's existing shadcn/ui components render in the Solid Glass material in light and dark modes, with no component code changed.

What you need first

  • Node.js and npm
  • A shadcn/ui project with React 19, Tailwind CSS 4 and the Base UI components
  • Git, if you want to run the site from a local clone

Steps

  1. Start from a shadcn/ui project by running npx shadcn@latest init.
  2. Add the stylesheet by running npx shadcn@latest add deeplethe/solid-glass/solid-glass.
  3. Import it after Tailwind and shadcn's stylesheet: @import "./solid-glass.css";.
  4. Delete the :root and .dark colour variables that shadcn init wrote, since Solid Glass defines the same names.
  5. Check the app in both light and dark mode; dark is the material as designed.

Prompt for your agent

In the shadcn/ui project at <project-path>, add the Solid Glass stylesheet from the deeplethe/solid-glass repository using `npx shadcn@latest add deeplethe/solid-glass/solid-glass`, import it after the Tailwind and shadcn stylesheets, and remove the duplicate `:root` and `.dark` colour variables. Report the files changed and confirm the build still runs.

Caveat. The README says a few shadcn/ui components in this repo differ from stock, but the stylesheet does not depend on those differences, so your own components should keep working.
