Authorization notice. Donsetch is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Who it is forA developer using Claude Code or Cursor who needs current documentation or release notes that the model does not know yet.

The problemBuilt-in model knowledge goes stale, and most web search tools require paid keys or accounts.

The outcomeThe agent searches the web and reads source pages through DonSeTch, with source URLs it can cite.

What you need first

  • npm or Homebrew to install the binary
  • An MCP-capable client such as Claude Code or Cursor, or the standalone CLI
  • Network access to the sites you want to read
  • Optional: a Chromium, Playwright-cached Chromium or Edge build for tier-2 browser escalation

Steps

  1. Run npm install -g donsetch
  2. Run donsetch doctor --mcp to print absolute-path registration blocks for your client
  3. Paste the printed block into your client's MCP configuration and restart the client
  4. Ask the agent to search for a topic and fetch the top sources
  5. Run donsetch doctor if a tool call fails

Prompt for your agent

Using the donsetch MCP server, search the web for <topic> and fetch the top 3 sources. Return a bulleted summary where each point has its source URL, and confirm each fetch returned page text.

Caveat. Keyless search depends on the 10+ backends DonSeTch queries, so result quality is not guaranteed for every topic.
