How to check a generated part for manufacturing problems with Text to Cad

Run design for manufacturing checks on a model before you send it to fabrication.

Who it is forAn engineer preparing a part for production who wants a quick check before paying for a print or machining run.

The problemDesign problems such as features that cannot be made are often found only after a part is ordered.

The outcomeA list of manufacturing issues to fix, followed by a regenerated model.

What you need first

  • uv installed (check with `uv --version`)
  • One supported agent app: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini or Grok
  • A network connection for the first start, which downloads CAD's runtime

Steps

  1. Install Text to Cad in your agent app, for example with claude plugin install text-to-cad@earthtojake in Claude Code.
  2. Ask the agent to generate the part you need and save the STEP file.
  3. Ask the agent to run design for manufacturing checks on that file and list each issue it finds.
  4. Ask the agent to change the model to fix the issues, then run the checks again.

Prompt for your agent

Using the text-to-cad plugin from https://github.com/earthtojake/text-to-cad, run design for manufacturing checks on <model file path> and list every issue with its location. Return the report and confirm whether a second check passes after fixes.

Caveat. The README does not list which manufacturing rules the checks cover, so confirm the rules match your process.
