Who it is forA researcher or student on Windows who wants a notes workspace with no account and no cloud database, starting with a fresh folder of notes.
The problemNotes spread across apps and cloud services, and links between ideas get lost when they are not kept in one place you own.
The outcomeA vault folder of ordinary Markdown files, with wiki links you can browse as a graph and see as backlinks.
What you need first
- A Windows PC for the installer path described in the README, or macOS or Linux per the README's platform claims
- A folder on disk chosen as the vault (existing or new)
- For the agent use case: a compatible AI tool that can connect to a local MCP server
Steps
- Open the latest release page at https://github.com/Freaction/Aquilum/releases/latest and download Aquilum_ _x64-setup.exe.
- Run the installer and choose a new folder for your vault. The app installs for the current user and does not need administrator rights.
- If SmartScreen warns about the unsigned installer, choose More info, then Run anyway, as the README describes.
- Create two or three notes and connect them with wiki links.
- Open the graph view to see the links, and check the backlinks panel below a note to confirm the connections.
Prompt for your agent
Using the Aquilum repo at https://github.com/Freaction/Aquilum, explain the steps to create a vault folder at <vault-path> with two linked notes. Output the list of .md files created in that folder. Verify that each note is a plain Markdown file on disk.
Caveat. The Windows installer is not currently signed with a code-signing certificate, so SmartScreen may block it until you choose Run anyway.
