Who it is forA knowledge worker or writer who keeps notes in an Obsidian vault and wants to browse them without touching a keyboard or mouse.
The problemSearching and opening notes in a folder means switching windows, and hands-free browsing is not an option in the usual note apps.
The outcomeYour vault appears as a notes orb on the board, and tapping the orb unfolds your markdown files as cards you can pinch, drag, and throw.
What you need first
- A webcam
- Google Chrome
- Python 3 (on Windows, run.bat finds a working interpreter)
- An internet connection on first run, because the page loads MediaPipe and three.js from CDNs
Steps
- Run
git clone https://github.com/jaredrhod/barehandsand thencd barehands. - Open Barehands.json and add an orb such as { "title": "Notes", "path": "~/MyVault", "kind": "notes" }, pointing the path at your vault.
- Start the app with
python3 server.pyand open http://127.0.0.1:8794/stage.html in Chrome. - Tap the ring to make the orbs bloom, then tap the Notes orb to unfold your files.
- Pinch-drag a card to move it, or flick it to throw it.
Prompt for your agent
In the barehands repo, add a notes orb to barehands.json that points to <vault path>, then confirm the file is valid JSON. Expected output is the updated config and a note that the Notes orb is ready. Verify the path resolves to a folder that contains .md files.
Caveat. The README says only markdown folders are shown as notes, so attachments and other file types in the vault will not appear as notes.
