How to play Doom deathmatch while Claude runs tasks with Intermission

Install the plugin on macOS and get dropped into a shared Doom game each time Claude is busy.

Who it is forA Claude Code user on macOS who waits on long Claude tasks and wants something to do in the gap.

The problemWaiting for Claude to finish work leaves idle time that is easy to waste.

The outcomeClaude opens a game pane after about two seconds of work, returns control with a three-second countdown when it finishes, and yields at once for permission prompts.

What you need first

  • Claude Code 2.1.287 or later
  • macOS 15 or later in Ghostty or kitty, or Windows 10 or 11 x64 in Rio
  • Internet access for the first-time game download (about 20 MB) and the UDP connection to the intermission server

Steps

  1. Open Claude Code in Ghostty or kitty on macOS 15 or later.
  2. Run /plugin install intermission --marketplace jarrodwatts/intermission.
  3. Run /intermission to turn it on and let the first-time download finish.
  4. Give Claude a task and click the game pane to play; use WASD or the arrow keys to move and left click to fire.
  5. Run /intermission off when you want to stop it.

Prompt for your agent

In the Claude Code session, install the plugin from jarrodwatts/intermission using the marketplace install command, then run /intermission. Confirm the game pane opens after Claude starts a task of a few seconds. Report whether the pane appeared and whether /intermission off stops it.

Caveat. The README lists macOS and Windows only, so Linux users have no supported path and the game needs a terminal that can show pictures.
