How to send work from Claude Code on your laptop to the farm with Clodfarm

Connect Claude Code on your laptop to the farm and start its sub-agents without leaving your editor.

Who it is forA developer who works in Claude Code on a laptop and wants to offload longer tasks to the farm.

The problemLong tasks tie up the laptop session, and there is no easy way to hand them to a machine that keeps running.

The outcomeClaude Code on your laptop can see the farm, start sub-agents on it, and message its Claudes.

What you need first

  • Docker on a machine or server that stays on
  • A Claude subscription to sign in with
  • A Git repo you control, with a deploy key if you want the farm to clone and push to it
  • Your test command, for example pytest -q

Steps

  1. Start the farm and confirm it runs at http://localhost:8080.
  2. Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user farm http://localhost:8080/mcp (use https:// and your farm's address if it is remote).
  3. Run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in when asked.
  4. Ask Claude Code to check the farm, for example "what's the farm doing?".
  5. Ask it to hand off a task, for example "have the farm add CSV export, on gil".

Prompt for your agent

Connect Claude Code to the clodfarm MCP server at http://localhost:8080/mcp using `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user farm http://localhost:8080/mcp`, then sign in with `/mcp`. Hand off the task <task description> to the farm and report the sub-agent it starts and its status.

Caveat. Claude Code gets a token for this farm only, and the farm's own page asks for its password, so keep that password private.
