How to set up and debloat a TV with one Claude Code prompt with TV Home

Let Claude Code find your TV, debloat it, build the home screen and write a restore script from one prompt.

Authorization notice. TV Home is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Who it is forA non-expert TV owner who already uses Claude Code and wants the whole cleanup done with a single instruction.

The problemManual ADB setup and debloating involve many steps and details that are easy to get wrong without experience.

The outcomeClaude Code connects over ADB, asks which apps to keep, disables bloat reversibly, installs the launcher and creates a restore script, checking each step with TV screenshots.

What you need first

  • An Android TV or Google TV on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer
  • USB debugging turned on in the TV's Developer options
  • A computer running macOS, since the README's manual steps are written for macOS
  • Git to clone the repo, and the setup.sh script, which installs the Python ADB client, JDK 17 and the Android SDK

Steps

  1. On the TV, go to Settings, System, About, press OK on Build 7 times, go back, open Developer options and turn on USB debugging.
  2. Clone the TV Home repo and open Claude Code inside it so it can reuse the launcher and scripts.
  3. Paste the prompt from PROMPT.md into Claude Code.
  4. Accept the Allow USB debugging prompt on the TV, then answer its questions about which apps you use, which go in the dock and whether you want wallpapers.

Prompt for your agent

Inside the cloned tv-home repo, follow PROMPT.md to find the Android TV at <tv-ip> over ADB, disable bloat reversibly without uninstalling, and install the launcher. Report the list of disabled packages, the launcher install result and the path to the restore script. Verify with a screenshot from the TV that the new home screen is showing.

Caveat. The README's gotchas, such as macOS blocking adb and Google TV hijacking the Home button, mean the agent may still need manual help if those problems come up.
