How to run the agent against a local Ollama model with Agav

Point Agav at Ollama so code and prompts stay on a model you run yourself.

Short answer: Install Agav with curl -fsSL https://agav.dev/install.sh | bash; then set up Ollama on your machine and pull the model you want to use, such as llama3.2; open your repository folder and run agav --provider ollama --model llama3.2. All steps.

Authorization notice. Agav is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Remote script. The Agav install step downloads and runs a script from Agav.dev directly into bash.

Who it is forA developer with private code who does not want to send it to a hosted model provider.

The problemCloud model providers control where prompts and code go, and some projects cannot send code to them.

The outcomeThe agent answers questions and works on your repository using a locally hosted Ollama model.

What you need first

  • A terminal on your machine
  • The Agav binary, installed with the install command in the README
  • An API key for a cloud provider, or a local Ollama setup
  • A project folder or repository you want the agent to work in

Steps

  1. Install Agav with curl -fsSL https://agav.dev/install.sh | bash.
  2. Set up Ollama on your machine and pull the model you want to use, such as llama3.2.
  3. Open your repository folder and run agav --provider ollama --model llama3.2.
  4. Ask a read-only question first, such as what does this project do?, to confirm the local model responds.
  5. Switch to a different model during the session with /model if you want to compare results.

Prompt for your agent

Using the Agav repo at prapaa-ai/agav, run `agav --provider ollama --model <model-name>` inside <repo-path> and ask it what the project does. Expected output: a short description grounded in the repository files. Verify that the response came from the local Ollama server and that the named files exist in <repo-path>.

Caveat. The README lists Ollama as a provider but does not explain how to install Ollama, so follow Ollama's own setup steps first.
