Who it is forA researcher or course author with lecture notes, a PDF or a slide deck who wants a video version without rebuilding the material by hand.
The problemExisting notes and slides are not in a format that can be narrated and animated, so repurposing them takes manual work.
The outcomeA narrated MP4 built from your own material in a style you pick, with a 60 second target length in the example.
What you need first
- Node.js 22.19 or later and pnpm (source install), or the macOS Apple Silicon .dmg from the latest release
- Chrome, Edge or Chromium installed, used to draw and render the pages
- An API key for a model provider such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter
- An ElevenLabs API key for the voiceover (optional for source runs; Volcengine TTS for Chinese voices)
Steps
- Install Frametell from source with
git clone https://github.com/sitor-ai/frametell.git && cd frametellandpnpm install && pnpm build. - Set your model provider key, for example
export ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=.... - Run
node apps/cli/dist/cli.js run notes.pdf --style warm-story --duration 60 --lang enwith your own file in place of notes.pdf. - Check the storyboard the director produces, since you can approve or edit pages before the film is rendered.
- Open the rendered 1080p MP4 and review the subtitles before publishing.
Prompt for your agent
Use the Frametell repo at sitor-ai/frametell after running pnpm install and pnpm build. Run node apps/cli/dist/cli.js run <file> --style warm-story --duration 60 --lang en to turn <file> into an explainer video. Expected output: a 1080p MP4 with subtitles; verify that the narration covers the main points of the source file.
Caveat. The README gives the run command with notes.pdf, style, duration and language flags only, so check the command help before depending on other options.
