How to delegate coding tasks from Octop chat to Claude Code or Codex over ACP with Octop

Configure outbound ACP runners so an Octop expert hands coding work to Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode.

Short answer: In the dashboard open ACP (/acp) and configure a runner: OpenCode, CodeBuddy, Claude Code or Codex; then enable acp_runner on the agent you chat with; ask it in chat to delegate a coding task in a named workspace. All steps.

Who it is forA developer who chats with Octop on the phone and wants code changes done by a real coding agent at home.

The problemChat assistants can talk about code but cannot run a coding agent in your repo.

The outcomeAn Octop expert that delegates coding tasks to Claude Code or Codex and reports back in chat.

What you need first

  • macOS, Linux or Windows; the installer provisions Python 3.12 with uv under ~/.octop/
  • A multi-core CPU with a few GB of RAM and disk for workspaces and documents
  • Model provider keys of your choice; optional Playwright Chromium for browser automation

Steps

  1. In the dashboard open ACP (/acp) and configure a runner: OpenCode, CodeBuddy, Claude Code or Codex
  2. Enable acp_runner on the agent you chat with
  3. Ask it in chat to delegate a coding task in a named workspace
  4. To use your Octop agent from an editor instead, run octop acp --agent main as a stdio ACP server for Zed or OpenCode
  5. See docs/acp.md for full setup

Prompt for your agent

Set up TencentCloud/Octop ACP so my main expert can delegate coding tasks to <Claude Code or Codex>. Then delegate <task> in <repo> from chat and report what it changed.
