Remote script. With Allow operations on, Comma can change files and run commands on your Mac, so review each Task before accepting its result.
Credentials. Connecting your Mac through Salix gives Comma access to files there, so keep sensitive identity and private data on your device as the README advises.
Who it is forA developer whose code and files live on a Mac and who already uses Codex or Claude Code for coding work.
The problemSwitching between Comma, your files, and a coding agent means copying context by hand for every change.
The outcomeComma reads the relevant Mac files, hands the change to Codex or Claude Code, and returns the result as a Task you can review.
What you need first
- Docker Engine with Compose v2.24 or later for self-hosting
- A model provider account, or a ChatGPT or Claude plan, for real model calls
- Enough disk space for the first Docker build, which downloads Lean, Elixir, Go, and Node toolchains
- A Mac with the Comma Mac app for local file and agent work
- pnpm and make for local development
Steps
- Install the Comma Mac app from the download link at comma.surf/download and connect it to Salix.
- Open Comma's Mac settings and turn on Allow operations only for work you are ready to review. (inferred, check the README)
- Ask Comma in chat to read the files for the change you need, then state the goal.
- Ask Comma to pass the change to Codex or Claude Code as a Worker or Sub-agent.
- Review the diff and the Task in Needs Review before accepting the result.
Prompt for your agent
On a Mac with the Comma Mac app connected to Salix, ask Comma to read the files in <project folder> and pass the change <describe change> to Codex or Claude Code. Report the files changed and the commands run. Verify the result by reviewing the diff before accepting the Task.
Caveat. The README names Pi and Kimi as other hand-off targets but gives no setup detail for them, so this guide covers only Codex and Claude Code.
