How to dictate in English and insert Spanish text by holding right ⌘ with Talkify

Speak in one language and insert the translation on-device with one shortcut.

Who it is forA bilingual professional who writes emails or documents in a second language and wants to speak their first language and get translated text.

The problemWriting in a second language is slow, and switching between typing, translating and pasting breaks the flow.

The outcomeSpeech in your language is translated and inserted in the target language, using Apple's Translation framework on the Mac.

What you need first

  • macOS 26 (Tahoe) on Apple Silicon
  • Homebrew for the one-line cask install, or the Talkify.dmg from the latest release
  • Xcode, since the project is an Xcode project, for building from source

Steps

  1. Install Talkify with brew install --cask tornikegomareli/talkify/talkify.
  2. Open Settings → Language and pick the language the Translate key should write in.
  3. Click into the document where the text should go.
  4. Hold right ⌘, speak in your own language, then release.
  5. If translation fails, check the clipboard, because the README says your words go there and nothing is pasted.

Prompt for your agent

In the repo tornikegomareli/Talkify, find the Speak one language, insert another section and summarize how the right ⌘ key chooses the target language. Verify and state whether the README says translation runs on the Mac.

Caveat. The README says the translated pair is shown in the notch before you speak, but translation quality for a given language pair is not described, so check the output before sending it.
