Who it is forA marketer or designer starting a new software promo who has a tone in mind and wants a distinct look.
The problemChoosing one of 101 themes by browsing takes time, and it is easy to reuse a theme from your last few films.
The outcomeA shortlist of gallery themes that match your tone and audience, with themes from your last five films left out.
What you need first
- Python to run the tools in tools/
- A copy of the repo, or a new repo created from the template with Use this template
- A storyboard file written from templates/STORYBOARD.md
- HyperFrames, if you build the film itself (the README links to it but does not describe the install steps)
- Claude Code, if you want the /saas-motion-video skill to run the process with you
Steps
- Clone Saas Motion Kit and run
pip installonly if the repo asks for it (inferred). (inferred, check the README) - Decide the tone, for example playful, and the audience, for example developers.
- Run
python tools/pick_themes.py --tone playful --audience "developers" --history ~/.motion-ledger.json. - Open the theme gallery to view the shortlisted themes' key frames and motion notes.
- Choose one theme and write its id into the storyboard.
Prompt for your agent
Use the saas-motion-kit repo. Run `python tools/pick_themes.py --tone <tone> --audience "<audience>" --history ~/.motion-ledger.json` for the film about <product name>. Expected output: a shortlist of theme ids that skips your last five films. Verify that none of the shortlisted ids appear in the history file.
Caveat. The picker relies on the history file you give it, so an empty or missing history file means no themes are skipped.
