How to run the DSHCode Web UI from source for development with Dshcode

Clone the repo, install dependencies, build, and start the local Web UI with pnpm.

Who it is forA developer who wants to read, test, or change the Web UI and plugin runtime rather than use the packaged app.

The problemThe packaged app hides the Web entry point, so developers need a source checkout to run the upstream Web UI directly.

The outcomeA local Web UI address printed by the command, opened in a browser for testing.

What you need first

  • A DeepSeek API key from the official API
  • macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Windows x64
  • For source builds only: git, pnpm, and Node.js

Steps

  1. Clone the repository with git clone https://github.com/whitelonng/dshcode.git and change into the Dshcode folder.
  2. Install dependencies with pnpm install.
  3. Build the project with pnpm run build.
  4. Start the Web UI with pnpm dsh web and open the local address the command prints.
  5. Read the development guide at docs/development.md and the architecture notes at docs/architecture.md before making changes.

Prompt for your agent

Clone https://github.com/whitelonng/dshcode, then run pnpm install, pnpm run build, and pnpm dsh web in <target folder>. Report the local Web UI address the command prints and confirm it responds to an HTTP request. Follow AGENTS.md in the repo before editing any files.

Caveat. Running from source requires Node.js and a terminal, which the packaged app does not need.
