Google Cloud has announced general availability of an Anthropic managed deployment option for Claude models. It sits alongside the existing Google managed option, giving teams two ways to run Claude on Google Cloud.
Both options offer the same frontier models on day zero, the same pricing and the same Google Cloud billing. The difference is who acts as the data processor and how quickly new Claude platform features arrive. In the new Anthropic managed option, Anthropic operates the stack on Google Cloud infrastructure under Anthropic's terms of service. Customers still sign in with Google Cloud IAM, keep Cloud Audit Logging and put the spend under their existing Google Cloud billing and eligible commitments.
The main draw is day zero access to Claude platform features that previously were not available through Google's own managed version, including Claude Managed Agents in beta, skills and code execution. In the Google managed option, Google remains the data processor, which some organizations prefer for compliance reasons.
The announcement was written by Michael Gerstenhaber, Google Cloud's vice president of product management for Gemini, who framed it as part of Google's commitment to model choice and flexibility, even though Claude competes with Google's own Gemini models.
Why it matters for developers: teams that standardized on Google Cloud no longer have to choose between staying inside their cloud account and getting Anthropic's newest agent features. You can use Claude's managed agents, skills and code execution while keeping Google IAM, audit logs and committed spend. The tradeoff to check is the data processor: your legal and security teams may care whether that is Google or Anthropic.
What to do: if you run Claude through Google Cloud today, compare the two deployment options against your data processing requirements before switching, and check which platform features you actually need.
