Apple released iOS 27.2, bringing Siri AI to five more languages

Apple released iOS 27.2 and matching updates for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS on Monday, with a focus on Siri AI. According to Apple, as summarized by Unite.AI, Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish alongside English. It remains in beta and needs an Apple Intelligence device set to a supported language.

The headline feature is memory. Ars Technica reports Siri AI can now recall past conversations and reference them in new chats. Engadget says it can also pull from more granular sources, such as photos sent in Messages, attendees on Calendar invites and voicemails, and ZDNET adds the Safari reading list and history. A new Excluded Apps setting lets users choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, and a granular text selection tool lets people copy parts of Siri answers.

Hardware support is limited. Engadget says the Siri AI features run on all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Other 27.2 additions include contextual suggestions in Messages, such as turning an invitation into a calendar entry, support for Google's SynthID watermarking in Photos and Image Playground, and dual camera support on FaceTime, per ZDNET. The iPhone Duo gets Apple Pencil support and Edge Light.

Regional limits matter. Unite.AI says Siri AI is unavailable in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and Apple says it is working with the EU to find a path forward. Ars Technica notes it remains unavailable in mainland China. Apple said languages will keep expanding, with traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming by the end of the year. Server-side features are subject to daily usage limits, and Apple said expanded access will be available for a fee in the future.

On the technical side, Apple said the new capabilities are powered by the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, running on device and on Private Cloud Compute. Apple also said Siri AI already works with third-party apps such as WhatsApp and Audible, and that support for tasks in Microsoft Outlook, Notability and Tripsy is coming soon.

For developers, that third-party app support is the part to watch. If your app serves French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish speakers, Siri AI is now a channel to test. To update, go to Settings, General, then Software Update, per ZDNET. ZDNET also says the redesigned Health app is expected later, likely with iOS 27.3 in December.
