Who it is forA developer or educator who already writes Python and needs a 3D math or science clip for a lesson, post or demo.
The problemSetting up 3D animation tools and rendering slowly can take longer than making the clip itself.
The outcomeA finished 1080p60 MP4 named after the scene class, rendered from a short Python file.
What you need first
- Python 3.13 or newer for the pip install route
- Node.js and npm for the browser route (npm install manimgx)
- A browser with WebGPU support to view scenes in the web page
- An AI coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, only for the prompt-driven route
Steps
- Install Python 3.13 or newer on macOS, Linux or Windows.
- Run
pip install manimgx - Save the Hello3D example from the README as scene.py.
- Run
manimgx render scene.py - Open Hello3D.mp4 from the folder where you ran the command.
Prompt for your agent
Using the manimgx repo at github.com/academa-labs/manimgx, write a scene.py file with a ThreeDScene subclass that animates <target topic>, then run manimgx render scene.py. Expected output: a 1080p60 MP4 named after the scene class. Verify that the MP4 exists and plays from start to end.
Caveat. The README benchmark figures were measured on an Apple M4 Pro, so your render times will vary by hardware.
