How to build and customize Chatbox from source with Chatbox

What you need first

  • Windows 10 x64, macOS 11 or later, or Ubuntu 20.04+ / AppImage distros
  • An API key for a cloud provider, or Ollama for local models
  • To build from source: Node.js and pnpm

Steps

  1. Clone with git clone https://github.com/chatboxai/chatbox.git and cd chatbox
  2. Install dependencies with pnpm install
  3. Start the development server with pnpm run dev
  4. Edit translations in src/locales, or code under src/renderer for the UI
  5. Run pnpm run lint before committing
