Authorization notice. NPC Talk is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.
Reverse engineering. Clips of a game can contain copyrighted game audio and dialogue, which the README says must never be published.
Who it is forA modder preparing a showcase video of their NPC mod for a community post or a game dev channel.
The problemShowcase footage of a talking NPC is hard to make look like normal gameplay and to sync with rendered lines.
The outcomeShort gameplay-style clips of an NPC conversation, ready to share, with lines rendered before filming.
What you need first
- A game you own, ideally single-player (the README says never inject into online games with anti-cheat)
- Git, Python 3.10+, uv and ffmpeg
- A Modal account for the GPU voice server, with the NPCVOICE_TOKEN environment variable set
- A fal key (FAL_KEY) for speech-to-text and the MCP server
- A Cerebras key (CEREBRAS_API_KEY) for the NPC's lines
- Optional: a TypeSafe key (TYPESAFE_API_KEY) for actions and spoken orders
- Windows and the .NET SDK (8+) only if you follow the GTA V example
Steps
- Install the skills with
npx skills add https://github.com/christos-antono/NPCTalkif you are not using a plugin install. - Ask the npc-showcase-clips skill to plan the scene, with a fixed gameplay camera and lines rendered first.
- Render the lines with
npctalk say, then check the timings. - Record the clip in the game, sync the audio, and cut it to 5 to 10 seconds.
- Run
npctalk checkbefore publishing the clip folder so no game audio or transcripts leak.
Prompt for your agent
Using the NPCTalk repo at https://github.com/christos-antono/NPCTalk, run the npc-showcase-clips skill to plan a 5 to 10 second conversation between <npc-a> and <npc-b> in <game-name>. Expected output: a planned shot list and rendered line WAVs with timings. Verify that the clip stays within 5 to 10 seconds and that `npctalk check` passes before anything is shared.
Caveat. The README says the showcase clips must not include game audio or a game's dialogue when published, so keep recordings private unless you have rights to share them.
