AI USE CASES

How to design a brand-new voice from a text description with VoiceStudio

Describe the voice you want and generate it, with no reference recording needed.

Who it is forIndie game developer or narrator who needs a distinct character voice and has no actor

The problemWithout a recorded sample, there is no easy way to get a custom character voice.

The outcomeA usable generated voice that fits the character, produced locally.

What you need first

  • macOS, Windows or Linux desktop (Intel Mac runs the UI only and needs a remote backend)
  • NVIDIA GPU (CUDA) or Apple Silicon (Metal) recommended; CPU-only works but is slower and needs about 5 GB free disk
  • Git, Node.js 22+, Bun and Rust/Cargo only if building from source
  • Speech models are downloaded on demand through the app; no paid keys or accounts required

Steps

  1. Install the app and open the Voice design workspace.
  2. Describe the voice you want in plain words.
  3. Generate sample lines and adjust the description until it fits.
  4. Use the voice for your script in the generation workspace.

Prompt for your agent

With debpalash/VoiceStudio, design a voice matching <voice description> and generate <script line>. Check that the voice stays consistent across two different lines.

Caveat. Designed voices can drift between generations, so test consistency before committing a whole script.
