Who it is forA tech lead who wants deliberate shortcuts from AI-written code tracked instead of forgotten.
The problemShortcuts written as comments get lost, so a temporary fix can quietly become permanent.
The outcomeA ledger of all deferred shortcut comments, with the context for when to revisit each one.
What you need first
- Claude Code or Codex installed
- A git repository with a project to work on
- Permission to install a plugin into your agent
Steps
- Run
/plugin marketplace add DietrichGebert/ponytailin Claude Code. - Run
/plugin install ponytail@ponytailin Claude Code. - Let the agent work in the repo so it writes
shortcut:comments where it chose a deliberate shortcut. - Run
/ponytail-debtfrom the repo root. - Review the ledger and schedule the items you want to revisit.
Prompt for your agent
In the repo <repo-path> (DietrichGebert/ponytail skill installed), run /ponytail-debt. Expected output: a ledger listing each shortcut: comment with its file and the reason to revisit it. Verify that every listed item matches a shortcut: comment that exists in the repo.
Caveat. The ledger only collects comments in the shortcut: form, so it will miss shortcuts that were not written that way.
