How to have Claude design a custom skin from a short description with Claude Skins

Describe a mood in plain words and let Claude build and apply a skin you can keep.

Who it is forA developer who wants a personal look for Claude Code and does not want to hand-pick every colour.

The problemBuilt-in skins may not match the look someone wants, and setting each colour by hand takes time.

The outcomeClaude builds a skin from the description and applies it while you watch. Repainting a built-in skin saves it as your own my- skin.

What you need first

  • Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, in a terminal or the desktop app's Code tab
  • Permission to run /plugin commands inside Claude Code

Steps

  1. Make sure skins is installed and Claude Code is running (see the install steps).
  2. Ask Claude in plain words, for example "make me a skin that feels like a sunset".
  3. Watch the skin apply, then type /skin to adjust parts or repaint any colour.
  4. Run /skin list to confirm your new skin appears alongside the built-in ones.
  5. Run /skin pin in a project folder if you want that folder to keep its own look.

Prompt for your agent

In a Claude Code session with the hellosverre/claude-skins plugin installed, ask Claude to make a skin that feels like <mood description>. Expected output: the skin is applied and listed by `/skin list`. Verify that the new skin name starts with my- when a built-in skin was repainted.

Caveat. The README says the design tool gives Claude the ability to build and apply the skin, so the quality of the result depends on the description and on how much you then adjust by hand.
