How to fold Claude Code's routine output to keep long sessions calm with Claude Skins

Turn on calm mode to remove motion and fold reads and searches into single lines.

Who it is forA developer running long Claude Code sessions who gets distracted by animated spinners and a long stream of read and search rows.

The problemEach read, search and shell command adds its own row, and the animation keeps pulling attention while Claude works.

The outcomeOutput stays short: no motion, one line per tool row, read-only output folded, and failures still shown in full.

What you need first

  • Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, in a terminal or the desktop app's Code tab
  • Permission to run /plugin commands inside Claude Code

Steps

  1. Make sure skins is installed and Claude Code is running.
  2. Run /skin calm to turn on calm mode.
  3. Run a task that reads several files and check that the reads fold into one line.
  4. If a command fails, check that its failure still shows in full.
  5. Run /skin calm off to put back the drawing you had before. (inferred, check the README)

Prompt for your agent

In Claude Code with hellosverre/claude-skins installed, run `/skin calm`, then ask Claude to review <target folder> for a bug. Expected output: reads and searches appear folded and failures appear whole. Verify by running `/skin calm off` and confirming the earlier drawing returns.

Caveat. The README says the quiet output setting is off by default and the quiet part works on both the desktop app and the terminal, but the folding only reduces what you see and does not change what Claude reads.
