How to turn a text file into narration with an AI agent with Yovoice

An agent reads a script file and saves a narrated WAV using your reference voice, with no desktop app open.

Authorization notice. Yovoice is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Voice cloning. Only use a reference voice recording from someone who has given you permission to clone it.

Who it is forA video or course creator who keeps scripts in plain text files and wants an agent to produce audio files from them.

The problemRecording narration by hand is slow, and cloud text-to-speech bills per character or per minute.

The outcomeA WAV file of the script in the chosen delivery style, generated locally by the Yovoice CLI.

What you need first

  • macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon, or Windows 10/11 x64 (NVIDIA GPU optional for the CUDA builds)
  • Enough disk space and time to download at least one model inside the app (sizes are listed in docs/models.md)
  • Reference audio of the voice you are allowed to use, if you want cloning
  • An AI agent that can install a Skill (for the agent-driven path), or just the desktop app for the GUI path

Steps

  1. Give your agent the Yovoice Skill link (https://github.com/leemysw/yovoice/tree/main/skills/yovoice) and ask it to install the Skill and set up the local CLI, engine, and model.
  2. Place narration.txt and a reference voice file voice.wav in the working folder.
  3. Ask the agent to read narration.txt using voice.wav as the reference voice, with a calm delivery, and save it as narration.wav.
  4. Ask the agent to report which model and engine it used, so you can repeat the run. (inferred, check the README)
  5. Play narration.wav and check that the pacing and pronunciation match the script.

Prompt for your agent

Using the leemysw/yovoice repo and its Skill at skills/yovoice, read <script.txt> with <reference.wav> as the reference voice in a calm delivery and save the result as <output.wav>. Report the model used and confirm <output.wav> exists and plays back at the expected script length.

Caveat. The README does not give the standalone CLI install command, so the agent must follow the Skill instructions and the docs/cli.md guide.
