How to study a deterministic, LLM-free text to audio pipeline with TLDR Radio

Run the dev setup to see how parse, template script and Kokoro TTS produce reproducible audio.

Who it is forA developer who wants newsletter audio without model hallucinations.

The problemLLM-written scripts can change facts.

The outcomeA local dev environment showing every pipeline stage from HTML to mp3.

What you need first

  • Docker
  • About 5 GB of disk for images

Steps

  1. Start TTS with docker run -d -p 8880:8880 --name kokoro ghcr.io/remsky/kokoro-fastapi-cpu
  2. Create a venv and install requirements-dev.txt
  3. Run the app with uvicorn on port 7777
  4. Broadcast a day and inspect the SQLite data and mp3 files

Prompt for your agent

Set up the mat-nolen/tldr-radio dev environment with Kokoro on port 8880, broadcast <date>, and confirm the generated script text matches the archive stories word for word apart from pronunciation fixes.

Caveat. The CPU Kokoro image works but synthesis of a full day takes a few minutes.
