How to audit any page for AI design tells with Hallmark

Run a Hallmark audit to get a report on the tells that make a page read as machine-made, without changing it.

Who it is forA designer reviewing a site a coding agent shipped who wants a checklist of what looks generic.

The problemIt is hard to name exactly why a page feels AI-made, so fixes stay vague.

The outcomeA report sorted into Floor problems that block shipping, Reflex defaults and Finish details.

What you need first

  • Node 18 or later
  • Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor or OpenCode
  • For the browser checks and screenshots: puppeteer-core and Chrome

Steps

  1. Install the skill with npx skills add nutlope/hallmark -g
  2. Run /hallmark audit ./index.html on the page; audit only reports
  3. Read the tiers: Floor (contrast, focus, reduced motion, invented facts, broken phone layout) never ships, Reflex gates are model defaults, Finish is craft detail
  4. To lint without your agent, run sloplint.mjs from skills/hallmark/scripts with --render

Prompt for your agent

Use Nutlope/hallmark to audit <page path> with /hallmark audit. Do not change any files. Give me the Floor problems first, then the Reflex tells, each with the exact element it refers to.

Caveat. An audit is a report against Hallmark's own rules; a Reflex gate can be overruled on the record when a build has a reason.
