What you need first

  • The Mosquitto broker app and the MQTT integration in Home Assistant
  • A camera that Home Assistant can see as a camera entity, or an RTSP or HTTP snapshot URL

Steps

  1. Click Add repository in the Vision State README, or add https://github.com/oleost/VisionState under Settings → Apps → App store → ⋮ → Repositories.
  2. Install Vision State, start it, and open it from the sidebar.
  3. Choose New sensor, pick the garage camera, draw a region around the door, and select the state option.
  4. Click a few example images for open, closed and halfway so the sensor learns the states in about a second.
  5. Add an automation that triggers when sensor.garage_door changes to open for 00:10:00 and calls notify.mobile_app_phone with a message.
