How to give a coding agent cheap web reading in one step with Oc

Install the web-browsing skill and add one line to your agent instructions file.

  • Claude Code
  • Codex
  • Cursor

Authorization notice. Oc is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Remote script. The npx commands download and run the package from npm each time, so pin a version or review the package before trusting it on sensitive machines.

Who it is forA developer who uses Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and wants the agent to read web pages without fetching raw HTML.

The problemAgents fetch raw HTML by default, which costs many tokens and clutters the working context.

The outcomeAn agent that runs Oc open for web content and reads the compact numbered view instead.

What you need first

  • Node.js 20 or newer and npm
  • A terminal the agent or you can run commands in
  • Permission to install an npm package globally, or use npx instead

Steps

  1. Run npx skills add https://github.com/only-cli/oc --skill web-browsing-cli
  2. Add this line to CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md: When you need content from a web page, run npx @only-cli/oc open <url> instead of fetching raw HTML. (inferred, check the README)
  3. Run npx @only-cli/oc --help once so the agent learns the commands

Prompt for your agent

Use the only-cli/oc repo: after the skill and instructions line are in place, ask the agent to read a page using `npx @only-cli/oc open <url>`. Expect a numbered compact view with an actions line. Verify the agent used oc instead of a raw fetch.

Caveat. The README says requests impersonate Chrome and can get past blocks, so check each target site's terms before reading pages at scale.
