Authorization notice. Oc is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Who it is forA developer or agent writing Python code that needs the exact signature or behavior of a standard library function.

The problemSearching generic web results returns blog posts and old answers instead of the official docs entry.

The outcomeA numbered result list from the official Python docs, with an exact symbol linking straight to its section.

What you need first

  • Node.js 20 or newer and npm
  • A terminal the agent or you can run commands in
  • Permission to install an npm package globally, or use npx instead

Steps

  1. Run npm install -g @only-cli/oc
  2. Run oc py search json.dumps (inferred, check the README)
  3. Run oc do <n> on the number of the result you want to read (inferred, check the README)

Prompt for your agent

Use the only-cli/oc repo: run `oc py search <symbol>` with the target symbol name. Expect a numbered list of Python docs results, with an exact match linking to its anchor. Verify that the top result names the symbol you asked for before quoting it.

Caveat. The Python search index is cached on disk for a day, so a newly published docs change can take up to a day to appear.
