How to make sprites, 3D models and sound for a mod with fal with universal-modder

Generate engine-ready sprites, 3D models, sound effects and music for a mod instead of drawing them by hand.

Authorization notice. universal-modder is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Who it is forSolo modder who can code a little but cannot draw or make audio

The problemMod ideas stall because every new unit, item or sound needs original art that fits the game's format.

The outcomeA set of transparent sprites, rendered 3D headings or audio files sized and named to match the target game.

What you need first

  • A coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot or OpenCode
  • A PC game you own, run single-player or offline
  • Git, Python 3.10+ and ffmpeg (uv recommended)
  • A fal API key for generated art, 3D and audio (or a local ComfyUI server for images)
  • Blender for 3D to sprite renders
  • Windows games run natively or from WSL

Steps

  1. Create a fal API key and store it with um fal key set.
  2. Start your agent with FAL_KEY set, for example export FAL_KEY="$(secret-tool lookup service fal.ai key api)" on Linux.
  3. Ask the fal-assets skill for the asset, such as a unit rendered from 3D into 8 or 16 headings.
  4. Use the asset-pipeline skill to cut out, fit and pack frames into the sheet size the game expects.

Prompt for your agent

Use universal-modder's fal-assets and asset-pipeline skills to make <asset description> for <game>. Output engine-ready frames at <size> and show me the sheet.

Caveat. fal is a paid service billed to your key, and 3D to sprite rendering needs Blender installed.
