Who it is forA mechanical designer or hobbyist who already has a written part spec and wants an AI agent to draft the model.
The problemModelling every feature and dimension by hand is slow when the spec is already written down.
The outcomeA parametric design the agent built through MCP, which you can open, inspect and change in SolidCraft.
What you need first
- Windows, macOS or Linux desktop, or a web browser for the browser app
- Rust toolchain and the repo cloned from github.com/tangency-labs/solidcraft for the cargo commands
- Claude Code installed for the MCP registration step
Steps
- Build SolidCraft from source with Rust, or install a desktop build from the downloads page.
- Run
cargo run --release -p solidcraft-cli -- commandsto list the command registry the agent can call. - Register the server with
claude mcp add solidcraft -- solidcraft-cli mcp. - To watch the agent work in the running app, start the server with
solidcraft-cli mcp --connect. (inferred, check the README) - Ask Claude Code for the part, then check the feature timeline and Parameters in the app.
Prompt for your agent
Using the SolidCraft MCP server from the tangency-labs/solidcraft repo, model <part description> as a parametric design with named dimensions. Expected output: a design with a feature timeline and a list of parameters. Verify by changing one parameter and confirming the model rebuilds.
Caveat. The README gives the --connect flag only in prose, so check the exact syntax in docs/mcp.md before relying on it.
