How to design an enclosure whose height updates from Parameters with Solidcraft

Model a case in the desktop app, then change one parameter and watch the design rebuild.

Who it is forA maker designing a housing for an electronics board who expects board or fit dimensions to change.

The problemA fixed model has to be redrawn from scratch whenever a board or fit dimension changes.

The outcomeA case on a parametric timeline where one updated value rebuilds the whole design.

What you need first

  • Windows, macOS or Linux desktop, or a web browser for the browser app
  • Rust toolchain and the repo cloned from github.com/tangency-labs/solidcraft for the cargo commands
  • Claude Code installed for the MCP registration step

Steps

  1. Install on Windows with winget install bherbruck.SolidCraft, or use the AppImage, disk image or web app from the README links.
  2. Sketch a footprint with dimensions driven by parameters, then extrude and shell it.
  3. Add enclosure features such as vent slots and port cut-outs on the timeline.
  4. Open Parameters and change the height value.
  5. Confirm the model rebuilds with the new height.

Prompt for your agent

Using SolidCraft from the tangency-labs/solidcraft repo, create an enclosure for <board or part> with a named height parameter. Expected output: a shelled design with a height parameter in Parameters. Verify by changing the height and confirming the model rebuilds.

Caveat. The README says the downloads are not signed yet, so Windows and macOS will show a warning the first time you run them.
