How to find competitors and keyword gaps for an app with Asobeast

Discover competitors from live search results and compare their listings with yours.

Who it is forAn ASO owner preparing a metadata update who needs to know which rivals rank for phrases the app misses.

The problemFinding rivals and the keywords they own by hand across storefronts takes hours of manual searching.

The outcomeA list of competitors found from search results, a listing comparison and the keyword gaps to target.

What you need first

  • Docker with Compose, roughly 2 GB of memory and 5 GB of disk
  • A browser such as Chrome or Firefox for the local sign in (Safari does not keep the session cookie over plain HTTP)
  • A store URL for the app you want to track
  • An MCP-capable agent such as Claude Code, Cursor or Gemini CLI, for the agent use cases

Steps

  1. Import your app's store URL into AsoBeast and confirm the tracked keywords.
  2. Open competitor discovery to find competitors from live search results.
  3. Compare the listings of the competitors you select.
  4. Review the keyword gaps and add the chosen phrases to tracking.

Prompt for your agent

Using the AsoBeast instance at <your-host> built from https://github.com/AsoBeast/asobeast, find competitors for <app-name> and list the keyword gaps against your listing. Return the gap keywords with the competitor that ranks for each, and verify each gap keyword is not already in your tracked list.

Caveat. Competitor tracking uses the same search requests as your own keywords, so the coverage is limited to the keywords and storefronts you track.
