Credentials. Provider keys in .env grant paid access to your accounts, so keep the file out of version control and rotate keys if they leak.
Who it is forA studio or creator who needs generated motion clips beyond free stock and has accounts with a provider.
The problemFree footage cannot always show a specific scene, and provider access is needed to generate those clips.
The outcomeA configured .env with the chosen provider keys, and a confirmed tool list the agent can use.
What you need first
- Python 3.10+
- FFmpeg installed and on the PATH
- Node.js 18+
- An AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf, or Codex
- Optional: API keys in .env for paid or free stock providers
Steps
- Run
make setupif you have not already. - Open
.envand add the key for the provider you have, such asFAL_KEY=your-key. - Run
python -c "from tools.tool_registry import registry; import json; registry.discover(); print(json.dumps(registry.provider_menu(), indent=2))"to see the available providers. - Send a generation request to your AI coding assistant that names the scene you need.
- Check the per-asset cost in the approval step before generation continues.
Prompt for your agent
In the OpenMontage repo at <repo-path>, add the provider key for <provider> to .env, then list the provider menu with the registry. Confirm that the provider appears and report the cost per clip before generating anything.
Caveat. The README lists many providers, but each one needs its own account and billing, and the README does not state their current prices.
