Credentials. The bridge runs your installed agent CLI headless using the login you already set up for it, so that account is used for every message.
Who it is forA WoW: Forever player who already uses Claude Code or Codex and wants answers without alt-tabbing while questing.
The problemSwitching windows to ask an agent a question breaks the flow of play, and reloading the UI for each message is slow.
The outcomeYour agent replies inside the game window, with the whisper sound and a live progress view while it works.
What you need first
- Windows (NTFS), Linux with the game under Wine on X11, or macOS with a native client, plus python3 where the README asks for it
- World of Warcraft: Forever in windowed or borderless mode (exclusive fullscreen blocks screen capture)
- Node.js 22.2 or newer
- At least one agent CLI installed and logged in, such as Claude Code (claude) or Codex (codex)
- git to clone the repo
Steps
- Run
git clone https://github.com/chelinho139/wow-aiand thencd wow-ai. - Run
node setup.js --project "C:\path\to\the\project\you\want\to\work\on"(on Linux or macOS, use the matching project path). - Fully quit and relaunch WoW, then enable WoW AI on the AddOns screen.
- Run
npm startin a terminal and leave it open. - In game, type
/wow-ai, click Connect until the light turns green, then type a message and press Enter.
Prompt for your agent
In the wow-ai repo, follow the README install steps for your OS with the project path <project-folder>, start the bridge with npm start, then confirm the bridge light is green in the WoW window. Expected output: a short reply from the agent appearing in the game chat. Verify the reply arrived in the window before reporting success.
Caveat. Agent commands run in the folder you pick, and Claude or Grok may ask for an allowlist entry before running a tool, so review the permission mode in docs/AGENTS.md first.
