Who it is forA knowledge worker with a pile of existing notes who wants an agent to restructure them into an Md2 HD map without learning the syntax first.
The problemWriting node frontmatter and rel: edges by hand is tedious, and a map can parse cleanly yet draw the wrong graph.
The outcomeMarkdown files that open as the map you asked for, plus a diagnosis of any missing nodes, reversed arrows, or placeholder nodes.
What you need first
- Node.js and npm installed, so that npx works
- A markdown file or a folder of markdown notes
- A modern web browser
Steps
- Run
npx skills add evan-steinhilb/md2hdto load the writing-md2hd-maps skill into your agent. - In Claude Code, you can instead run
/plugin marketplace add evan-steinhilb/md2hdand then/plugin install md2hd@md2hd. - Ask the agent to convert your notes folder into an Md2 HD map, naming the folder.
- Run
npx md2hd notes/on the output and check the Overview for missing nodes or reversed arrows.
Prompt for your agent
Using the md2hd repo at evan-steinhilb/md2hd and its writing-md2hd-maps skill, convert the notes in <placeholder> into md2hd markdown with a type: map block. Expected output: the edited markdown files. Verify by running `npx md2hd <placeholder>` and confirming every intended node appears on the canvas.
Caveat. The skill helps an agent write the syntax, but you still need to check the rendered map because the README notes that a clean parse can still draw the wrong thing.
