How to import the Top 200 feeds into a reader in one step with Tidings RSS

Download the recommended 200-feed OPML and import it to start reading across 14 categories.

Who it is forA new RSS user who wants broad, high-quality coverage without pruning hundreds of subscriptions.

The problemBuilding a feed list from scratch takes hours, and large directories leave too many subscriptions to clean up.

The outcomeA reader filled with 200 vetted feeds, organized by the OPML groups, ready to read.

What you need first

  • An OPML-compatible feed reader, such as Tidings on macOS 12 or later
  • Internet access to download the OPML files from GitHub releases
  • Optional: a terminal, if you want to verify the SHA-256 checksums

Steps

  1. Open the Top 200 download link and save tidings-top200.opml to your computer.
  2. Verify the file by comparing its SHA-256 hash with the entry in SHA256SUMS.txt from the release downloads. (inferred, check the README)
  3. In your feed reader, choose the import option for OPML and select tidings-top200.opml.
  4. Open the imported groups and confirm that articles load for a few sources in each category.

Prompt for your agent

Use the tidings-rss repo to import tidings-top200.opml into <reader-name>. Report how many feeds were imported and list any feed that returns no articles on first load.

Caveat. The README says a few overseas sources may depend on local network conditions, so some feeds may not load everywhere.
