Who it is forA researcher, consultant or student with a set of reports or notes who needs a checked answer across all of them.
The problemReading a dozen long documents to find one answer is slow, and AI answers without sources are hard to trust.
The outcomeYou get an answer that cites the file behind each claim, and you can open each citation in the right app to verify it.
What you need first
- A computer running macOS, Windows or Linux, with the GenOffice app downloaded from the releases page
- Either a Genspark sign-in or an API key from a supported provider such as Claude, OpenAI or Gemini, or a local OpenAI-compatible server
- For the agent use cases: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or another supported coding agent installed on the same computer
Steps
- Open GenOffice and star the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Markdown or HTML files you want to use.
- Go to the home screen and open Ask AI.
- Type your question in plain language.
- Read the answer and click each citation to open the source file.
- Confirm the cited passage supports the claim before you use the answer.
Prompt for your agent
In GenOffice, star the files in <folder> and ask Ask AI: '<question>'. Expected output: an answer where every claim has a file citation. Verify by opening at least two citations and checking that the cited passage supports the claim.
Caveat. Ask AI reads only the starred files and sends the hits and passages it requested to the provider you chose, so check that provider's terms before using confidential documents.
