Authorization notice. Humanize is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.
Credentials. The flow uses the coding agent CLI you are signed in to, so the agent acts with your account and its access.
Who it is forA developer in a terminal who wants a quick answer about a repository from a coding agent they already pay for.
The problemAsking a coding agent a question about a codebase usually means opening its interface and setting it up each time.
The outcomeA single command runs the chat flow with a chosen agent and prints the response to the shell.
What you need first
- Python 3.12 or newer
- uv installed (https://docs.astral.sh/uv/)
- A coding agent CLI you are signed in to, such as Claude Code or Codex
- A scratch repository to run agents in, because agents run with approvals bypassed
Steps
- Install uv and confirm you are signed in to Claude Code or Codex.
- Run
uv tool install hmzto install Humanize. - Go to a scratch repository, not your main working copy.
- Run
hmz exec -f chat -a assistant=claude/claude-opus-5:high "What does this repository do?". - Read the answer and replace the question text to ask something else.
Prompt for your agent
Using the humanize repo (hmz), run `hmz exec -f chat -a assistant=claude/claude-opus-5:high "Summarize the purpose of the repository at <repo-path>"` from a scratch directory. Output the agent's summary as plain text. Verify that the summary names at least one file or folder from <repo-path>.
Caveat. The README says agents run with approvals bypassed, so run this only in a scratch repository.
