Who it is forAn author preparing a manuscript for a journal or conference who wants critiques from several angles before sending it out.

The problemGetting feedback from peers takes weeks, and a single reader often misses the same weak points that reviewers would catch.

The outcomeA set of reviewer-style critiques with evidence-anchored judgements, plus a read-only review that leaves your draft unchanged.

What you need first

  • Claude Code CLI, VS Code, or JetBrains with the plugin marketplace available (plugin install needs v3.7.0+ of this repo)
  • An Anthropic API key set up as described in docs/SETUP.md
  • Optional: Pandoc or tectonic for DOCX or PDF output, per docs/SETUP.md
  • For the Claude Science path: a Claude Science account and this repo at v3.14.0+

Steps

  1. Run /plugin marketplace add Imbad0202/academic-research-skills
  2. Run /plugin install academic-research-skills
  3. In Claude Code, invoke the Academic Paper Reviewer skill and point it at your manuscript file. (inferred, check the README)
  4. Read each reviewer critique and note which points you accept, reject or need to test.
  5. Use the critiques to plan revisions in your own edits, since the reviewer does not change the draft.

Prompt for your agent

Using the repo Imbad0202/academic-research-skills in Claude Code, run the Academic Paper Reviewer skill on the manuscript <path to draft>. Expected output: multi-perspective reviewer critiques with evidence-anchored judgements. Verify that the reviewer left the draft file unchanged and that each judgement cites a passage from the manuscript.

Caveat. The README says current live reviews remain NOT_CALIBRATED, so the critiques should not be read as calibrated predictions of journal decisions.
