How to get a short plain-language explanation in chat with Skills

Ask for a brief ELI5-style answer in chat, with no file written.

Who it is forSomeone who needs to grasp a technical term or a piece of AI output quickly and does not want a long answer.

The problemLong answers bury the point and take more reading than the question deserves.

The outcomeA short plain-language answer in the chat window, with no file created.

What you need first

  • Claude with skills support, such as Claude Code, using the ~/.claude/skills folder
  • A local copy of the isas1/skills repo for the install commands
  • A git repository to summarise, for the page use cases

Steps

  1. Paste ELI5 succinct followed by the thing to explain into the chat, for example ELI5 succinct on this regex. (inferred, check the README)
  2. (Optional, for routing through the skill) Run cp -r skills/eli5-succinct ~/.claude/skills/ from the repo root.
  3. (Optional) Run cp -r skills/summary ~/.claude/skills/ as well, since the routing in each description depends on the other existing.
  4. Ask eli5 succinct on <thing> and read the chat reply. (inferred, check the README)

Prompt for your agent

Using the eli5-succinct skill from isas1/skills, explain <thing> briefly in chat. Expect a short plain-language answer and no file written. Verify that no file was created.

Caveat. Install both Skills, since the routing in each description depends on the other existing.
